Available online, this course will equip you with the core skills you need to find a meaningful career in social work, focusing on mental health, mental illness and psychiatric disability.

Your career may include working within community based non-government organisations; home based outreach; centre-based programs; respite care; residential services, rehabilitation programs; clinical settings; or supporting people in employment. The possibilities once you complete this qualification are endless. This course is designed to support your learning needs and to develop your study skills. Unique to our program, we will help you to develop job ready awareness, mentorship and work placement opportunities by the time you graduate.

WHY SHOULD I STUDY THIS COURSE?

The Certificate IV in Mental Health (CHC43315) is a nationally recognised training qualification and part of the official Community Services Training Package You should study this course in order to be equipped with the job ready skills you need to find employment in the mental health industry. We will assist you in finding work placement with an organisation where you can consolidate your knowledge with practical work experience and be graduate ready.

This course is for students wanting to work or volunteer providing support to people affected by mental illness or have a psychiatric disability. You will complete 15 subjects which focus on interpersonal skills such as building relationships, working collaboratively, and working with diverse cultural groups. Additionally, you will graduate with practical skills and knowledge in trauma informed care, drug and alcohol issues affecting mental health and staying safe at work. To graduate and receive the qualification, each student must complete at least 80 hours of relevant work. By studying this course, you are fast-tracking your career within the community sector.

Mark has had the privilege of delivering training and education programs in over 150 locations across the country, covering all states and territories upskilling over 2500 frontline service workers.

Mark has a working background in community services and mental health, where he spent much of his time planning and delivering group and solo training/support sessions.

Mark uses his finely honed communication and interpersonal skills to work with a broad range of stakeholders and achieve shared outcomes.

Mark is extremely passionate about upskilling and reskilling like-minded individuals here at The Academy of Media through his experience and expertise while learning from the people he engages with.

Penni Dickson - Mental Health Program Manager at Academy of Media

Penni is a Counsellor & Coach with more than 20 years experience in the mental health industry. Penni has worked in government, not-for-profit sectors and private practice delivering training and mental health services to professionals, community members and consumers. Her areas of interest are child & family therapy, health counselling & coaching.

Penni has a passion for research and is working toward decreasing preventable death associated with mental illness and self-managed chronic diseases.

Penni has a Master of Counselling & Psychotherapy and trained for her post-graduate coaching qualifications at Robbins-Madanes Training under her teachers Tony Robbins and Chloe Madanes.

Penni is also a Licensed Mental Health First Aid Trainer, with Mental Health First Aid Australia.
