MEET YOUR DIRECTOR

Growing up in Port Macquarie, NSW, Chris Van Der Wielen fostered his love of music performance with a small group of fellow high school musicians and a few dedicated teachers. This love pushed him to follow a career in the arts - taking him to the ANU School of Music in Canberra in 2012. Here he learnt from teachers such as renowned jazz guitarist Mike Price, as well as bassist Eric Ajaye, and in 2014, he spent time under the tutelage of six-time Grammy-nominated American fusion guitarist Mike Stern.

Whilst completing his Bmus, he quickly became one of Canberra’s most in-demand singer-songwriters and guitarists, and has performed alongside acts such as The Baker Boys Band, Kaleid, GFORCE, Amy Jenkins, Timomatic, Se(p)t, Tate Sheridan, Tuchasoul and many more. Despite specialising in jazz at university, Chris’ guitar prowess, soulful vocals, and improvisational skill have led to him performing across all genres of music - including pop, rock, blues, classical, RnB and even house.

Now, along with his constant performance work, Chris is actively involved in the music community of Canberra as a producer and recording engineer, with a thorough understanding of industry standard DAW’s including Pro Tools 12 and Logic Pro - as well as software synths such as Spectrasonic’s Omnisphere. He teaches music performance, theory, and production both privately and in the vocational education and training (VET) sector, and is releasing his first long-awaited solo project of original material.
